"Were You Born Courageous?"

This week Dennis Prager of Prager U interviewed one of the most courageous Pastors in America on his weekly show, "Fireside Chats", Rob McCoy, the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Godspeak. Pastor McCoy stood up against Governor Gavin Newsom's Naziesque orders to close down churches. He was dragged into court and slapped with fines for defying these unconstitutional orders. This chat is so inspirational, that I had to share it with you.

Who is Pastor Rob McCoy? Let's allow the Washington Post to tell us what we already know, even while they put their leftist slant on the facts. Pastor McCoy is a very courageous person who refuses to be trampled by the local government that is supposed to protect the rights of the people, not violate them!

"In March, as the pandemic swept the country, California issued its first stay-at-home order. Godspeak, like other churches, shuttered and went online.

"But McCoy came to believe the virus did not warrant such sweeping closures. He announced Godspeak would be opening for Communion on Palm Sunday, April 5. Predicting backlash, McCoy resigned from his city council position the night before. The Palm Sunday services, while in technical violation of the health orders, were quite cautious. For example, masks were required, seats were sanitized and only 10 people were allowed in at a time.

"Then, in late May, Black Lives Matter rallies spread across the country. And while large church gatherings were still limited, many political leaders — including Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) — showed support for the protests. McCoy saw this as hypocrisy.

""We knew then that the restrictions had nothing to do with the virus," McCoy said. "So, we opened — wide open.""

Pastor McCoy often quotes a fairly famous Pastor from our historic past, Jonathan Mayhew, who is credited with starting the American Revolution from the pulpit. Mayhew famously said, "Disobedience to tyrants is obedience to God".

Pastor McCoy rightly points out that there is a cyclical phenomenon that is happening in our world. We fight tyrants for freedom from slavery, freedom leads to abundance, abundance leads to complacency and complacency leads to bondage. People get comfortable with being taken care of. 

It's human nature to want to be taken care of. But there is another part of our nature, perhaps our divine nature, that desires liberty more than comfortability. Freedom from responsibility is not liberty at all. Rather it results in slavery. Slavery is to those who, in most all cases, do not have our best interests in mind. The oligarchies of the past and the present serve only themselves. We need only a brief history lesson to reassure ourselves of this fact.
