"Mitt hjerte alltid vanker" ("My Heart Always Wanders") is an old Scandinavian Christmas song, released as a single by Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø 1995. It is one of several versions of the original Danish hymn, which has been translated and set to different melodies in various Scandinavian countries. Kyrkjebø sings a Norwegian translation set to a Norwegian variant of a Swedish folk melody, first written in 1816 in Västergötland in Sweden. This is the version that is the most popular in Norway and Sweden.
The ethereal beauty of the melody along with the angelic voice of Sissel inspired me to share this Christmas carol with you. The song is contained in the video below which is an entire concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Enjoy.
My heart always wanders to Jesus' cradle, there gather my thoughts of their own accord.
There is my yearning at home, there has my faith its treasure;
I can never forget you, blessed Christmas-night!
Gladly will I palm leaves scatter all about your crib, for you, for you alone, will I live and will I die.

The story begins in France around 1847, where Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure was the commissionaire of wines in a small French town. It is said he knew more about poetry than about God. He wasn't much of a churchgoer or holy man. Nevertheless, the parish priest asked him to pen a poem for the Christmas Mass and the poet was honored to share his talent with the community.
